Power

The eighth P in the The 10 P's of Trusting God to Overcome Fear Devotional.

Are you mindful of the Power of God?

God’s Power cannot be denied. This is installment number eight in a ten-part series to trust God in times of fear.

In this devotional we’ll explore the definition and scope of God’s Power, God’s unlimited power, that is, his Omnipotence, and His manifestations in the natural and spiritual world.

Anyone who believes Bible, the Word of God, knows He is our creator. I believe the Bible is to be taken literally, which means I believe every word God spoke through the prophets and those who wrote all the books of the Bible were spoken by Him, and we are to take His Words literally.

Not everyone believes like I do, but He has never failed me, so I continue to believe the Bible as being the infallible Word of God. His truth. But I digress.

If you can’t get past the first verse of the Bible, the rest of the Bible will make no sense to you. But we have to believe in something, and I believe in His Word.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

This verse is paraphrased in other Old Testament verses. Can you find other scripture verses that reveal His Power?

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
 Psalm 33:6

‘Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You. Jeremiah 32:17

I love the Jeremiah verse because there’s an old contemporary Christian song that is based on this verse. It’s amazing how uplifting songs based on Biblical verses can be. I had never been exposed to them growing up. Check out Marantha singers and here’s the song based on the verse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJEcb2qb9Yg Enjoy!

God has tremendous power. Power to deliver His chosen people from four-hundred years of bondage: the exodus from Egypt. Over the years, secular scholars, liberal theologians, atheists, agnostics and even some Jewish scholars have tried to say there isn’t any Egyptian reference to it because the Egyptians kept meticulous records, or they say it was merely allegorical, or mythological. I say, Pah!

While the archeological community will categorically deny the evidence of chariot wheels under the sea because the evidence didn’t adhere to their scientific methods, I will always believe the account in the Bible because I have faith. Faith in the Word of God. Faith in His truth. Faith in His Power! Again, I digress. Let’s take a look at a couple of verses:

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. Exodus 14:21-22

If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. Daniel 3:17

Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell off his hands. Acts 12:7

There are a multitude of verses throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament that talk about His Power of deliverance. I challenge you to find them.

There’s also God’s power to save. There are countless stories about those individuals who have given their lives to Christ and were immediately healed of drug and alcohol addiction, and where some of them have gone on to become preachers of the Word. Lives have been changes in a millisecond. But for most people, their lives change gradually once they give their lives to Christ. Their changes happen so gradually that those around them fail to see it, until someone from deep in their past sees them and can’t believe their transformation. And it’s not from what they did, it’s from what He did!

We’ve gone over some of these verses in past devotionals. I will list the references, and you can dig in and go find them.

  • Romans 1:16
  • 1 Corinthians 1:18
  • Ephesians 1:19-20

And then there’s the Power of God in our daily lives. Some would say it’s coincidence. I choose to believe it’s by God’s hand. How is it when I lose something and I can’t find it anywhere when I stop and ask the Lord to find it for me. And He always does? OK. That may be a lame example, but when it happens, I give the glory to God for it because He deserves every praise. Here are some more verses that back up my example:

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, Ephesians 3:20

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9

Do you have stories that substantiate God’s power in your life? I’d love to hear about them.

Lastly, God’s Power in future events is a big one. My husband and I have been studying eschatology for many years now. And it’s the reason I always say, keep your eyes on the sky. (But even before that, keep your eyes on Jesus!)

Jesus is coming back, and based on worldwide events that point to what Revelation tells us, it won’t be long. A one-world government is being set up before our very eyes. Sadly, there are so many people who are blinded by the world, they don’t see it, nor will they see it coming when it does. Here are some verses that speak to His power over the future (remembering that over 27 percent of bible is prophetic. God has told us exactly what would happen, and it has. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever!

Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Matthew 24:30

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.1 Thessalonians 4:16

saying:

“We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty,
The One who is and who was [
a]and who is to come,
Because You have taken Your great power and reigned.
 Revelation 11:17

In conclusion, I pray you trust in God’s power in all things, especially your life. And I encourage you to trust Him in every aspect of your daily life. And the assurance that His presence surrounds you. I’d love to hear your thoughts on God’s power in your life..
