The fifth P in the The 10 P's of Trusting God to Overcome Fear Devotional.
Since the beginning of the year, the second newsletter of the month had our monthly devotional. We’ve covered four of the ten “P’s” about trusting in God to overcome fear. We covered God’s provision, His protection, His presence and The Person of God. This month we’ll cover the promises of God. All ten are great aspects to help us allay any fears we might have (and there are so many in today’s society), but this one is one of my favorites because it gives me an immense hope. I pray it gives you hope as well.
For this devotional, I will not be giving you the actual scripture verse since there’s a lot of them, but I will cite the references. I challenge you to search the verses and bury the hope of His promises in your hearts.
From Genesis to Revelation, His promises are true.
God promises salvation.
In Genesis 3:15, we are given a promise of redemption through the child of a woman.
In Isaiah 9:6-7, we are given the prophecy of a savior to come, the Messiah, Jesus Christ. (It is this scripture we most often hear at Christmas time.)
We are given the promise of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ in John 3:16. It is the fulfillment of the prophecy from Isaiah. I’m sure you have seen this scripture verse on mugs, t-shirts and at football games. We are promised eternal life if we believe in Him. (There are other prophecies of the coming Messiah scattered throughout the Bible. Do you know any of them?)
Then we are given another new testament promise of salvation in Romans 10:9-10. If we confess out loud that we believe in Jesus Christ, and that God raised Him from the dead, then you will be saved.
God promises provision.
While we talked about His provision in another newsletter, this time we will approach it in a different way.
We have the assurance He will provide for our daily needs in Philippians 4:19 and Matthew 6:31-33. The latter verse is part of my husband’s favorite series of verses.
He promises us strength and support in Isaiah 41:10 and 2 Corinthians 12:9. (I love the Isaiah verse.)
God promises guidance and wisdom.
He teaches us in Psalm 32:8 and guides us in Proverbs 3:5-6. (The latter verse is one my husband and I depend on heavily.)
The two wisdom verses are James 1:5 and Proverbs 2:6. When it comes down to it, all wisdom comes from God. (We started praying for God’s wisdom in all aspects of our lives years ago. God has always seen to it that we acted with wisdom in many of the huge decisions we’ve had to make over the years. Does that mean we always get it right? No, it doesn’t. Most of the time it was because we didn’t wait on the Lord and that is key.)
God promises peace.
A troubled heart is no match for God’s powerful peace in John 14:27 and
Philippians 4:6-7. (The latter is also another verse that I lean on because I’ve seen His peace wash over me on so many occasions. How could I not believe in that promose?)
Through various trials in life, God comforts us when we keep our minds fixed on Him in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 and Isaiah 26:3.
God promises eternal life.
Along with promise of salvation from above, we have a hope in heaven with no more pain and no more sorrow as we see in John 14:2-3 and Revelation 21:4. (That second promise is one I am looking forward to as I’m sure many of you are also.)
God has promised us immortality in 1 Corinthians 15:52-54 and the assurance of being with Him forever in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17.
As believers, we know that God will return to take away His bride, the church. It will happen in a twinkling of an eye. I, for one, have my eyes on the skies, but I am working with diligence to spread the gospel and to give people hope.
Conclusion…
Hold fast to God’s promises. They are a source of strength, hope and assurance. Clutch them to your heart and stay in the Word of God, studying and giving the Lord your best. Finally, Hebrews 10:23 tells us to hold fast to the promises of God.
Finally, which of these verses spoke to your heart and do you have others that might be a blessing to me.
